Ilyshin Il-96
After the aircraft Il-86,
which was a medium range airplane,
Ilyshin developed long range airplane Il-96.
Model called Il-96-300, had new wings,
and was shorter 4 m comparing with Il-86,
had it's first flight in 1988. The airplanes
development program began in Soviet era plane was
equipped with engines Perm PS90 which was later to became
planes greatest fault. Not taking this
into consideration about
15 planes was brought to Aeroflot.
After political changes in Russia Ilyshin developed
a new model Il-96 and equipped it with
US engines Pratt&Whittney PW2237 and
western electronic systems.
Airplanes are marked as Il-96M (first flight in 1993.) in commercial variant,
and Il-96T (transport aircraft).
While Il-96-300 was a disaster and god a nickname flying bucket
Il-96M and Il-96T have a prosperous future.
There are already 30 orders for:
Aeroflot, Transaero, and Volga Dnepr Airlines
